Your code has places that can be improved, yes. Seriously, your code works - that is the definition of non-mistake. I don't see any actual mistakes in any part of your code. i used to do this as part of my job, and doing it on a deadline is more stressful. Thanks for taking the time to read and give me constructive feedback. what benefit does this give me over the way I have done it? I can't say I've ever had the issue of mixing them up though. I understand what you're saying though and will consider it in the future. Yeah, I feel this is just a preference and I personally like the instance to be the singular of the array. Again, it was a quick and dirty script but this is something I should watch out for.

You should submit the function/module to PSGallery so I can just install it rather than having to download it manually. I did see your function in the comments to the other post I reference but that was only after writing the script. I did not know about the integrity check.

Since this script was just for me and I wanted to see everything it did what I wanted but I am going to change things going forward to using the other write commands. I knew you would be the one to reply with all my mistakes :D Thanks for letting me read thru your code! it's neatly done, very clear and readable. I would have the catch set a $Var and then use that to decide if and of the remaining code should be run or bypassed. continuing on if the "stop the service" 21 failed so i would have done something like this. My personal pref, tho, is to be vividly distinct. I would have called the collection something like $AppList. think about acting on ALL the items in the collection instead of the current item. It's risky because it is far too easy to get them reversed. riskily similar $Var names in the ForEach ($App in $Apps) loop why repeat them like that? you could either call a function OR simply display the $App.Name in the status msg and run the code block. The uninstall sections all seem identical.

it aint a full fledged bit of code, but it does find the apps. Here's one i wrote for a friend to get a list of installed apps that checks the 32/64 bit branches and the all-user & current user areas.

it makes for a tad more work to do an uninstall, but it does not risk resetting your other apps to the default - and it tends to get you a listing far, far more quickly. The recommended way is to use the registry. Plus, it does NOT see apps that did not register themselves with that class. Since it does all that to ALL the MSI-installed apps, every call is really remarkably slow. It forces all the MSI-installed apps to run an integrity check - and that can sometimes result in the app being reconfigured. there are few things as annoying as in-your-face text output that you cannot turn off. still, if you need more than that, use Write-Host - but try to avoid it. WH can't be turned off gracefully, so it is worth avoiding if you can.

try not to use Write-Host unless you need custom colors You need to provide sequence before the switch or the IF/ELSEIF/ELSE stuff. the third item is Five in the input list, but it is the 5th item in the switch block tests.

Plus plus, if you don't add a break to each test action, then each one will be tested - you can sometimes get multiple matches when you don't expect that. Plus, the default runs last even if you put it 1st in the switch. If you require things to run in a specific order, then you need to see to it that the list in the foreach is in the order you want things to run. so item-1 will run after item-2 if item-2 is the first item to enter the switch AND it matches one of the tests. like an IF/ELSEIF/ELSE block, it runs things in the order that they appear in the collection if there is a match with one of the tests.
